Mike Woloszyn: Sports Car/Porsche Aficionado
Mike Woloszyn grew up on the Southwest side of Chicago. His passion for cars started in the late 1950’s when he would go with his parents to Soldier Field every Saturday night for the stock car races. His interest continued into the 1960’s. He would take several trips every summer with his friends to Road America, one of the world’s permanent road racing tracks in Elkhart Lake Wisconsin. He also often frequented the Milwaukee Mile in West Allis Wisconsin to watch the Indy Cars race.

Mike left his passion for a few years when he went into the Navy. He met his wife Denise when he was on break one visit from the Navy. After his time in the Navy, he bought a 1972 Mustang. He then joined the Sports Car Club of America-Chicago region. Mike was active in autocross racing with his 72 Mustang in the Club. Mike and Denise also worked the Pro Races at Road America. Mike worked in the Pit Lane and Denise worked in Timing and Scoring.
In the 1970’s, a co-worker of Mike’s wife started amateur racing with his formula car. He also had three Porsches at the time and asked Mike to help with work on his race car. It was during this time that his passion zeroed in on Porsches. Not only was he learning about the engineering and design concepts of Porsches, but he also drove one of them. He drove the 1970 Porsche 911T. He received great joy from driving the 911 on the open roads.
In the 80’s Mike and Denise started a family and that became his main focus. When they became empty nesters, he bought his first Porsche in 2009 when he retired, a bit of a gift to himself. It was a black 2006 Porsche 911 Carrera S.
He joined the Porsche Club of America and took it on track at the Autobahn Club in Joliet. He also enjoyed many long country road trips and on Sunday mornings he always makes time for some back roads driving. He kept this Porsche from 2009-2024.
He recently acquired his second Porsche-a shark blue 2022 Porsche Cayman T. He continues to meet with a group of friends every Wednesday at the Porsche dealership in Westmont to visit and go for lunch and share their passion. In the summer they take long drives together in their individual Porsches and grab lunch.
Just listening to Mike speak about his knowledge and passion, you get a clear sense of the joy it brings him and the happiness that comes with those long drives.
Thank you, Mike, for sharing your passions with us and for your service in the Navy!
